Rick,

Re Baked Beans:

The beans used are Navy Beans (US), cannelini beans (It), or haricot beans (Fr), also lingot beans or white kidney beans.

They are all essentially the same thing!

So all you have to add to get your favourite is a suitable sauce.

I would suggest that you experiment with tomato soups as a basis.

This is where my input ends, as, personally, I can't even eat off a plate that has had "baked beans" on it, though I love "mogettes" (for example).

We know that the baked bean sauce has added sugar (the bane of dieticians!).

Often, for sauces based on soups, the cheapest option is the most-favoured!

For a tagliettelli and meatball dish we do, I have found that a "cuppa soup" makes a good tomato-based sauce - better than the lovingly-home-made tomato soup from real tomatoes!

Previously we used the "cheap" soup, again better than the "Heinz Cream of".

So just some suggestions of how to cope with shortages!

As Chicken Little remarks in his book, "it was just another day in Playmobile Ville, no one knew that there was an unitialised variable in the software controlling the nearby toffee factory, then BOOM, and the next thing you know the sky is falling"
